E30 LS Swap (Budget?)

Welcome. If you’re reading this in December of 2019, you likely found my site through my build vlogs on YouTube. Thanks for watching my videos and visiting this page and reading about my E30 LS Swap.

I’m going to be documenting an LS Swap into my 91 318i that I picked up a few months back for $500. It currently runs and drives pretty well with an M42/5 Speed. I’m planning on ripping it apart and tossing in a 5.3 Truck Motor that I picked up in incredible shape for $400.

The stage I’m currently at is cleaning up the heads/ block deck/pistons on the 5.3. Once everything is clean, I’m buttoning the motor back up with a Sloppy Stage 2 Cam and some PAC 1218 springs.

Here’s the first two videos

Here’s a gallery from when I picked the car up to how she looks now. Haven’t really done much to the car itself aside from power washing, cleaning some of the junk out, and putting in a new fuel pump.

I’m hoping to make this something of a ‘budget’ build, but realistically I will probably end up splurging on some things — mostly tools I don’t already have. I’ve always wanted learn how to weld and fabricate, so I plan on using this project as an opportunity to do those things during this E30 LS Swap.

At this point, I’m heavily inspired by Cleetus McFarland & Co, The Driveway Engineer, Taylor Ray, and Sloppy Mechanics along with countless other channels and friends that I’ve learned from over the years. I’m not really sure what this will eventually grow into, but I’ve always wanted to build some sort of Frankenstein monster of a car, so here I am diving in and sending my money into the fire pit of racecar dreams.

Thanks for following along if you decide to. If anybody wants to donate car parts or money, I’m all for it 🙂
